The Fly vs. Surface Tension

For every type of animal there is a most convenient size, a change in size carries a change in form.

Drop of knowledge.

Sometimes the water droplets of knowledge weighs us down. This has been a problem that I’ve been facing recently. I have a love for learning and I take a lot of notes. But sometimes I get slowed down, almost like a paralysis, and I can’t take in information anymore. What if this storing of information is just weighing me down and what I really need is to offload my knowledge.

I would refer to myself as a knowledge fly, mainly because I know my form is small, and I struggle with a large amount of anything. As a fly I know that I can’t be very large, because if I could be a six-foot fly then I would. This is my convenient size. Having a small size means that when a drop of knowledge hits me, I struggle to deal with it. While I have a great advantage over the larger knowledge animals, that have no problems “shaking off unwanted drops of knowledge”, in that I am unaffected by gravity, and I’m very nimble. I have to observe and fix my situation within my size. In understanding my size, I have no problem better finding solutions to my problems.

I can wait until the water evaporates. I can mindlessly wait it out until this weight has mostly subsided into the back of my mind. But to me, it is such a waste of knowledge drops! I can watch a movie, play a game, take a break for a while and then come back when my mind is mostly clear.

Long term solutions. If being a fly no longer works within my environment, I’ll have to evolve. No scaling up, because a fly scaled up is nothing but a disaster. Like many of my insect friends, I’ll have to develop a waterproof shell, or a long proboscis. Within this change in form, I’ll have to change my habits. With a longer proboscis, I’ll be better off drinking nectar rather than feeding on decomposing material. If that is the case, then how am I able to reproduce? This is a balancing act that takes time. Maybe one day I’ll be a knowledge dragonfly or bee. Or maybe I can skip this insect meta and become a bear like many of my knowledge heroes.

If you are reading this, let me know what I can do. Thanks.
